Italian club side Fiorentina has announced the death of their team captain David Astori this morning following a sudden illness at his hotel room.
The player death came as a complete surprise to the club, as he was lined up to play for Fiorentina’s match against Udinese. The match was however postponed immediately as a sign of mourning. Similarly all ‘Seria A’ fixtures followed suit.
A statement from Fiorentina reads-: “We are profoundly shaken and forced to announce that their captain David Astori has died. For this terrible and delicate situation and above all out of respect for his family, we appeal to the sensitivity of the media”.
David Astori died at the age of 31.
